Making your iPhone a MIDI Device

This section will guide you through how to turn your iPhone into a MIDI device within your Mac. If you have connected your iPhone to the computer via an iPhone to MIDI cable such as the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer, then you will not need to complete this step.

The Audio MIDI Window (Mac)

Mac computers come with a very handy application built in, called Audio MIDI Setup. You can find this in Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup.

This application has two windows - Audio and MIDI. If you cannot see the MIDI window then select Window -> Show MIDI Window. Next click on the Network icon which should open the MIDI Network Setup window.

In the top left box labelled My Sessions you need to add a new session by clicking on the + icon. Enable this session by clicking the tick box next to it. In the box labelled Directory you should see a list of all the devices connected to that network that could be potentially used MIDI controllers. Select your device and click the Connect button. If you cannot see your device listed then try selecting Anyone from the 'Who may connect to me' drop down menu. If you still do not see your phone here, then go back and follow these instructions: Connecting to your Computer.

When the phone is setup you should see your phone name listed under Participants. You are now ready to set up Moovments and Controllers and start using the iMoov with your computer!

The Audio MIDI Window (Windows)

If you are using a PC you will need to download a virtual MIDI driver such as rtpMIDI. You can download this for free here.

Once downloaded launch the installer and follow the on screen instructions.
