He has been helping us over the last few weeks with some ideas for promotion, design, branding, graphics and just generally showing a lot of love for the work that we are doing.

Starting up a business is hard work, long hours and full of seemingly impossible feats; all the traditional cliches are pretty much true. However, after a year of trying different things, it seems that for us, the pub has prooven critical to the effective running of our business.

In the beginning we would work separately, squeezing in hours wherever possible, setting deadlines and expecting a lot from each other. The problem with this is isolation – regardless of your commitment and passion, working alone is what it is – lonely. So things don’t really get done to schedule and resultant decisions are never really made. In fact, it took us a while to figure out that it’s the decisions, no matter how big or small, that drive our business.

We then tried working together in the evenings, but the constraints of jobs and clashing timetables proved an endless struggle. Motivating yourself to work in evenings seems easy in theory, but isn’t always feasible after a long, arduous work day. You also need a social life to keep sane, so evenings can at times be few and far between.

So for us, the pub (namely Channings) has been the winning formula – now a main part of our business model. Every Sunday we meet down the pub and make important business decisions. Not only is the pub a relaxed atmosphere, but after a few beers, tongues begin to loosen, which really helps our decision making process. Regardless of what work has or hasn’t been done, we use these decisions to refine our plan, which ensures we stay on the same page.

So our advice – if you’re starting up a business, get down the local and start making business decisions. I’ll have a Heineken please!

Our old demo video was pretty bad quality, but we’re not bad quality, so we’ve taken your suggestions of ‘re-film it with a better camera’, and this is the result!

We’ve been sorting lots of stuff out, but I won’t bore you with details. Either way, things are hotting up!

ps. We’ve christened our prototype – it’s now called The TangibleFX MIDI-Moov!

In other news our friend, mentor and landlord the Pervasive Media Studio will be moving soon to the prestigious Watershed complex just down the road, and we shall be moving with them.  The watershed is a great place to be for us creative types, so be sure to visit us when we move – there’s always lots of great stuff happening there!
